Making Sure that Your I-140 Forms Go to Where They Should Go
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services frequently updates the “news” section of its website to help immigrants keep track of changes in the law and to offer helpful information. If you are relatively new to the process, however, it can be a little tricky to figure out the meaning of these announcements and bulletins. The I-140 Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker is the form that you or your employer would fill out if you were petitioning to become a permanent resident. If your employer is filing the petition, he or she can also fill out an I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service, to help expedite your petition for permanent residency status.
It used to be that all of these forms would be sent to various worksites throughout the country, but in order to make the process more efficient, all of the forms must be submitted to one of two Nebraska processing centers starting on October 19th. The states affected are New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland – but this is important for all of us in Tennessee, because a job that is based in one of those other states will be affected.
